ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND ITS EVERYDAY USE

Artificial Intelligence is a frontier of technological advances today. It is the most promising and fastest growing area of IT. AI is crawling up into our lives imperceptibly. Ideas, that were science fiction a decade ago, are our reality now. Imagine, you wake up right in your apartment full of air-devices. The breakfast and coffee are already done. Voice assistant tells you the weather forecast, reminding you of today’s schedule, asking how you feel. Air humidity and temperature are perfectly calibrated. On your phone, you can see a health report with recommendations about the diet for this week. Getting on work in an autopilot car. Sounds like the future. The fact is that it is our reality now; all the technologies described above are already here. None of them can work without AI. So, let us talk in particular about each sphere that AI can make easier.

To start with, we should give the right definition to AI to talk about it.

In 1950, the father of computer science, the world known mathematician who was working on hacking the Nazi crypto machine Enigma, Alan Turing changed the world history a second time with a simple question: “Can machine thinks?” The answer to this question, the Turing Test, established the direction of development, vision and goals of AI. According to Turing, the main purpose of AI is to replicate or simulate human intelligence in machines.

Media. Have you ever heard about deep fake? It is a technology that helps to make a synthetic media in which a person in an exciting image or video is replaced with someone else’s likeness. In the near future, it will be hard to recognize if the person on the screen is real or not. Therefore, social networks and media platforms will have to legally filter user content for deep fakes. There will be two sides, some developers will improve deep fake neural networks, while others will create detectors to combat them. Content generation with the help of artificial intelligence will also have a positive effect. For example, an online course where the generated teacher speaks your language. Nevertheless, one must also remember the risks, including misinformation of users and discrediting of public figures [1].

Education. Artificial intelligence can become your personal teacher: it will evaluate the learning of the material and see the gaps. This will help create an individual learning plan for the child – something that teachers often lack due to the number of students in the class and time constraints. However, the role of the human teacher will not disappear. Artificial intelligence will be able to focus on routine things in education: content transfer, knowledge assessment. Moreover, a mentor will spend more time teaching critical thinking, creativity, empathy and teamwork [2].

Entertainment. In the field of entertainment, the highest hopes rest on virtual, augmented and mixed reality. Top IT companies, such as Facebook (Meta), Microsoft, are already talking about the development of Meta universes that will work on these technologies. The main task for the near future is to make devices for augmented reality light and inexpensive. Otherwise, these technologies will never become widespread.

Work. Artificial intelligence and robotics are already replacing people who perform routine tasks. In addition, the better the underlying models become, the more likely it is to apply to more professions. Governments will face increasing challenges of what to do with people who have lost their jobs due to AI. After all, their large numbers can cause protests and riots.

Wealth. One of the challenges of the future may be abundance. With the development of technology, the concept of scarcity may disappear. It sounds utopian, but it already exists in digital products: many names of music, videos and games in streaming.3D printers, synthetic food and cheaper alternative energy will lead to changes in economic models built on resource scarcity. The same as before the revaluation of money. It is also worth adding the automation of workplaces.

War. Military developments and artificial intelligence are a rather dangerous combination. Nevertheless, defense state enterprises are already working in this direction. Drones are one of the main tools here. They are unrestricted in movement in open areas, use computer vision and carry weapons.

As you can see, there are many areas of our life that AI can make better and some that can make worse, for example rising unemployment. Each coin has two sides, and here it is the same. With great power comes great responsibility. If we cannot lose our humanity in the pursuit of creating artificial intelligence, then it will be the greatest technological breakthrough in human history and the golden age of our civilization. If we do not succeed, humanity will have another problem.
